"What Shangwe means to me,
I began attending Shangwe last August 06, initially as a featured poet along with Louise Hercules and Nicola Greenwood. Before the night itself I had written three new poems (Pineapple and Avocado, Conceptualising Love and Chester, the Black Ghetto Cat) to showcase at Shangwe, along with a few more, Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie and Hungry For Mother’s Love’, the latter appears in Nicole’s second anthology, Sexual Attraction Revealed, May 2007. From the outset I have found Shangwe to be a warm and welcoming space for new and established poets and spoken word enthusiasts. It’s intimate and relaxed atmosphere, attributed to Nicole’s (the host) all embracing approach gives all who are present a ‘feel good factor’. I have met some interesting people at Shangwe poetry nights, and I can honestly say that it has greatly facilitated the development of my poetry-writing and performance, as I am always inspired to produce new work for each forthcoming Shangwe. Needless to say I have yet to miss a night. Give thanks Sister Nicole, Congratulations on SHANGWE and the publication of Sexual Attraction Revealed!"

"It really was my pleasure to perform that night and thank you for inviting me to do so. It really was a nice evening wasn't it? Even my cousin, who is back over here for a little while from Chicago, commented on the nice, easy going vibe at Shangwe."

"Can I just say thank you so much for the organising of the poetry night, I had a great time and am looking forward to many more. A couple of the girls that came along with me have now started writing too, one of them has written her first line & intends to keep going, so you are spreading inspiration like wildfire!"
